Ask HN: What vendor you'd switch out if a better option was available?

Hubspot - saying this because one of the teams I work with is sold on what it supposed to do, and it sucks at doing those things.

Specifically the ads hub or whatever they call the section that is supposed to help with ads reporting.

I've already built 2 replacements for it.

They were so sold on the hubspot promise they dedicated a significant amount of time and money to try to make the thing do what they expected, and then consulted with 3 software dev companies to build out what was needed to make it work.

Once they saw the $30,000 price, months of custom dev work, plus what is the enterprise level thing now? $7k or $8k per month - and this is shimming.. they paused finally.

Funny thing is the new canvas in google sheets did 99% of what was wanted, did it in 30 minutes, and it's $30.

Build a replacement for looker studio, exact same issues.

Although Cody might have done that with Graphed - I have not jumped in to test it yet.

Presumably all of them, as this is the simple definition of “better.”

I would definetly swap Slack for Discord. In a company i was working for we had discord and it was super fun with all that easy to embed memes. How much we got doen, is another story though

I don't know if this is actually an issue with Forma, but I hate how I have to use my corporate login (and thus corporate device) to be able to file expenses. But Forma is still better than we used before (I forgot their name but their UI was horrible).

I would replace Teams in a heartbeat. It's not about availability, it's about license structure and bundling.

Switched from Spotify to Deezer. I prefer Slack to alternatives, Teams is miserable.

I would replace them with an open source solution if at all possible. Replacing a vendor with yet another vendor is a waste if I run into the same problems of a vendor controlling the solution. It's all companies chasing moats and cashflow to build value for their shareholders or to sell to private equity. Is one vendor better than another? Maybe, for a while, but it never lasts.

Through LLM tokens we work towards digital sovereignty. The goal is to have someone else host it as cost efficiently as possible, with an exit path always available to self hosting if needed.

i prefer soundcloud i have switched to it a while ago its better and free as well as you tend to get more freedom exploring content from new artist more slack is pretty good already so wont prefer swaping it

i have that kind of brand loyalty with local small shops maybe, where there's a relationship. but not corporate online brands.
